Organic Coffee is the Nectar of Life!
Filed Under Uncategorized | Comments Off
This is my attempt to explain a bit about USDA certified organic items, in particular, organic coffee.
1) Organic goods may not be made from any synthetic chemicals.
2) No genetically engineered plants or critters can be used in certified organic items.
3) In order for an item to be labeled 100% organic it must only contain certified organic ingredients and/or processing agents, excluding water and salt.
4) Items labeled “organic” must consist of at least 95 percent organically produced ingredients (excluding water and salt). Any remaining product ingredients must be comprised of non agricultural components approved on the National List including non-organically produced agricultural items that are not readily available in organic form.
5) Products that are 100% Organic or Organic (95% organic) are allowed to display the USDA organic logo.
6) Food products labeled organic, such as organic coffee, can’t be treated with sewage sludge (yes some crops are), or ionizing radiation.
The above is just a quick rundown of the USDA organic labeling regulations. Onto Organic Coffee. According to the definition of “organic”, organic coffee must be at least 95% organically grown.
Do you want to know why you should care if your coffee was grown organically?
1) Not withstanding what you think about conventional farming practices, can anyone imagine slugging down something treated with sewage sludge?
2) One of my biggest comforts with the USDA organic certification is no genetically modified plants.
3) For you unleaded coffee drinkers, organic coffee is your safest option. Down right nasty chemicals such as ethyl acetate and methylene chloride are used in processing standard decaf. coffees. Certified organic decaffeinated coffees are decaffeinated by a water process. There is epidemiological evidence to suggest that imbibing conventional decaf. is associated with an increased risk of rheumatoid arthritis.
4) Pesticides and herbicides can be lethal in high doses. Many coffee farmers live in very poor conditions and can’t afford proper protective gear, resulting in toxic exposure to chemicals.
I have only listed a few topics about the benefits of organic coffee. I haven’t even got into all the environmental havoc that results from just manufacturing the pesticides and herbicides.
In conclusion, there is the naturalness factor. Farmers cultivating their coffee organically keep a close eye on their crops to ensure they are not destroyed by disease. I don’t care if you think I’m just trying to put forth my agenda, or promote your good health, please give organic coffee a taste and pass the word.
If you’re wondering where to get some outstanding organic coffee look no further than Nectar of Life Coffee. It’s more than organic coffee, it’s the Nectar of Life!

You reach your 50s and it should be the best time of your life, the children are grown up, you have less ties, you’re not old yet but you’re not that young either. Then you start to feel stiff, have trouble getting out of the chair, and realise that for the next 30 years you might not be so mobile after all.
You might have arthritis, which affects people of all races, social levels, geographic areas and gender. Arthritis symptoms are pain, stiffness and swelling in the joints, Osteoarthritis is the most common type which affects the knees.
If you have heard about arthritis, you would most likely have associated it with older patients, and with a lot of body pain. There are many things about arthritis, however, that make it a unique, and yes, painful disease. Not only confined to the old Arthritis can affect all ages including children.
It’s down to wear and tear and as the protective cartilage is worn away bare bone is then exposed within the joint, causing pain and swelling. It is refered to as wear-and-tear arthritis or degenerative joint disease.
Rheumatologists and physicians who diagnose and treat arthritis and related conditions, use a variety of diagnostic techniques, so it is very imprtant to consult one. The doctor will ask questions about your symptoms and medical history to learn about any family history of arthritis.
You should take regular exercise as this helps to strengthen muscles and maintain joint mobility, not easy if you find it hard to get around. An easier form of exercise is swimming, as it takes the strain off the muscles and joints, strengthening them at the same time.
Physical therapy programs are another option, these should be tailored to your age level and the degree of mobility that you have. Take a hot shower before exercise and apply ice packs to muscles and joints to minimize any discomfort related to exercise.
You should get at least eight hours sleep at night, to help your arthritis, and your rheumatologist might advise you to use a splint, sling or cane, and or special footwear to rest the affected joints during the day.
Try a natural formula designed to shield your joints from the trials and results of working hard and playing hard and painful arthritic joints.

Cures For Gout.
When it comes to gout, many people find that they are suffering with something that they do not know a lot about. Before you can really take advantage of any cures for gout, it is important to make sure that you know what you are dealing with. By making sure that you fully understand what you are up against, you will be better equipped to handle the situation and to find relief.
Gout is a form of arthritis and it occurs when there is too much of a build up of uric acid within the body. The extra build up of the uric acid can lead to kidney stones, sharp deposits of crystallized uric acid in the joints, and lumps under the skin called tophi, which simply put is nothing more then deposits of the uric acid under the skin.
Where Gout Attacks
If has been found that most people find that their first attacks of pain comes from the big toe. The big toe seems to be the place where the uric acid crystals seem to form first. Upon first glance, it is easy to see that the toe is swollen, red, extremely sore, and warm to the touch. It will also be very stiff as gout can cause extreme stiffness in the various joints throughout the body.
The typical areas that are affected are:
·Toes
·Fingers
·Elbows
·Wrists
·Knees
·Ankles
·Insteps
·Heels
The pain can come and go. Some people will experience symptoms every day while others will find that they have attacks only every couple of months.
How To Treat Gout
Cures for gout do vary and what may work for one person may not always work for another. This is why it is so important to make sure that you are doing everything you can in order to make sure that you are taking care of your pain.
The first thing you want to do is to stay healthy. Eat a balanced diet and make sure that you are drinking a lot of water such as eight glasses a day. Make sure that you are also avoiding foods that have a high amount of purines. It is also important to make sure that you are maintaining a healthy weight. If you need to go on a diet, make sure that it is a healthy one as super fast weight loss can actually increase the levels of uric acid in the blood which will make the situation harder for you to deal with.
The next thing to remember is that you need to give your treatment for gout time to work. Too many people find that they become frustrated and simply give up because they are not getting the results they want as quickly as they would like. While the pain can be hard to deal with at times, it is important to make sure that you are sticking with your treatment so that you can finally get the rest you deserve.
Make sure that you are sticking with a cure for gout treatment that is proven to work and you will be on the right track. In no time at all you will find that the pain from gout is nothing more than a distant memory.

Thoughts on Gout and Alcohol
Filed Under Uncategorized | Comments Off
Thoughts on gout and alcohol.
Risk aspects for gout include heightened body mass index (BMI), hypertension, older age, alcohol use, chronic renal failure, and diuretic use. It has also been found that diets that are purine-rich will precipitate or even exacerbate gout via a hyperuricemic consequence.
Questions abound regarding the use of alcohol and its liaison with gout. Many studies have been done and invariably they find that there is a direct correlation between alcohol consumption and gout.
The medical findings substantiate that decreased urate excretion is brought about with alcohol consumption. The findings also suggest that different alcoholic beverages will vary in their purine content. Beer has been found to have as its high purine content guanosine. Guanosine is a purine, which is linked to ribose.
Thus of all the alcohol consumption types of alcohol, the worst for gout problems is considered to be beer. For instance the risk of gout was significantly raised with alcohol intake even as low as 10.0 to 14.9 g per day. Then it was found that the risk of gout is 2.5 times higher in men who usually consume 50 g or more of any type of alcohol per day. Further, it appeared that beer and liquor consumption carried the greatest risk, however those who had moderate wine consumption did not increase their risk of incidental gout.
Other findings reported that the men who tested and drank the most alcohol on a daily basis had twice the risk of developing gout as men who did not drink. Interestingly enough, beer drinkers increased their risk by 50% for each daily serving! Those, however, who drank hard liquor, were found to have increased their risk by 15% for every drink. Further it has been found that in general uric acid secretion is greatly impeded by alcohol,
Researchers have also proven that beer consumption leads to gout due to its inordinately high purine content. When a person eats and then goes through the process of digestion, scientists say that anything with a purine compound will break down to form uric acid. Uric acid is known to leave the body through urine output. However when the kidneys cannot process the entire load of uric acid, then blood levels become extremely high. This uric acid then forms crystal deposits within the joints of a person, and it is those crystal deposits that cause what is known as gout via beer consumption.
The other side of this discussion regarding gout and alcohol is that some who drink alcohol and have gout propose that alcohol dims pain naturally, and that those who stand while imbibing rather than sitting at the bar are promoting exercise of their bodies, as well as preventing them from staying at the bar too long, thus encouraging the drinking of too much alcohol. They also maintain that drinking in moderation is relaxing thus it will actually help the body to counter the effects of gout and alcohol. For some reason, the jury is still out on those thoughts!

A Healthy Diet and Moderate Exercise Can Relieve Arthritis Suffering
Filed Under Uncategorized | Comments Off
Do you suffer from painful arthritis? Do you also have a problem with your weight? If so, you are probably having back pain not only due to arthritis, but also as a consequence of the strain your weight is putting on your spine. The body was not constructed to carry around extraneous weight in the form of body fat. If you are carrying around even an additional 20 or 30 pounds day in and day out, your spine, which supports the body, is being put under a great deal of strain. This kind of stress can created abnormalities of the vertebral column. These misaligned vertebra can generate arthritic changes in the spine and persist in irritating the degenerative changes that have already taken place. Furthermore, your body may offset in other ways, like your hips moving forward or tilting to counterbalance the additional weight. This can restrict the sciatic nerve, which is extraordinarily painful.
A recent survey by the NPD Group, a leading market research company based in Rosemont, Ill., shows that approximately 62% of adults and 34% of children are overweight or obese. The ubiquitousness of arthritis escalates with growing weight. Research indicates that maintaining a healthy weight reduces the risk of developing arthritis in the first place and may decelerate disease progression. A reduction of just 11 pounds can lessen the occurrence (incidence) of new knee osteoarthritis and would do quite a lot to reduce back pain as well.
A healthy diet and routine exercise is imperative for an individual who is sincere about overcoming their back pain, knee pain, and joint pain in other regions of the body. Although it’s an unmistakable solution, it genuinely is the only way for you to stop suffering and get your life back.
First of all, let’s tackle the subject of dieting. There are a huge number of different ways to diet and the majority of them are effective only as a Band-Aid. Unfortunately, the diet industry is not interested in having you lose weight permanently because consequently they would lose you as a customer. Eating a life-enriching diet (as a lifestyle choice and not a temporary fix) and reducing your calories so that you are using more calories than you are taking in is the only way to lose weight in a healthy, permanent manner. Shedding a large amount of weight too quickly is not only ineffectual long-term, but perilous. A good goal is to lose about 2 pounds every week in order for it to be truly effective.
Research has confirmed that exercise and physical activity not only reduces pain and augments function, but truly postpones disability. It is important for you to get at least one-half hour of moderate physical activity no less than 3 days a week. You can get activity in 10-minute intervals.
Chiropractic manipulation is a proved way to get movement back in the joints of your spine and other areas of, and can be a wise first step before starting an exercise program. A well-aligned spine makes exercise and physical activity a lot easier and actually slows down arthritic degenerative changes. The Annals of Internal Medicine reported the findings of a survey of 232 people who had arthritis and were under a rheumatologist’s care. Of those people, 63% answered the survey by stating that they were taking advantage of some kind of “complementary care” as named by the study. Of those responders, 31% were trying chiropractic. Possibly the most notable statistic was that 73% of those utilizing chiropractic found it beneficial. Explaining why they’d tried the non-medical chiropractic care, those surveyed offered a number of reasons: 1) to reduce pain, 2) they’d heard that it helps, 3) they felt confident that it is safe, 4) it had aided someone they knew, and 5) because their prescription medication wasn’t stopping the pain.
Chiropractors, also called doctors of chiropractic, have been assisting individuals suffering from back pain due to arthritis and other arthritic problems for over a hundred years. Not only can arthritic pain and degenerative changes in the spine be caused by the misaligned vertebra that your San Diego chiropractor will correct, if left unchanged misalignments can decrease resistance and immunity, which can cause new health challenges.
It is always a good idea to consult a health care professional to discuss diet and exercise. If you want to find qualified advice on the type of lifestyle changes that you will required to aid you in managing your arthritis, your chiropractor will be very happy to talk with you. Moreover, besides correcting any misalignments in your spine, your chiropractor will diagnose any faulty gait patterns or posture irregularities that may be compounding your arthritic pain.

Tips for gout relief

Tips for gout relief
Gout is unfortunately a type of arthritis that many have suffered through for centuries. The cause of gout is medically known as uric acid deposits that infiltrate the joint spaces and the connective tissue. The uric acid deposits are made of fine pointed crystalline (needle-like crystals) and thus the pain of gout issues from the deposits. Generally the pain associated with gout is felt in the early morning hours when the sufferer is asleep.
Gout relief can be achieved through traditional treatment. The treatment consists of Indomethacin or NSAIDS to stop the pain. This is followed by anti-inflammatories to bring down the inflammation. Then one of two drugs, by the names of Allopurinol or Colchicine, is given in order to stop or at least slow down the formation of uric acid. It is unfortunate that even though each of these gives gout relief, Allopurinol and Colchicine has some rather serious side effects. The worst of these side effects is possible loss of kidney function.
In some people food allergies have been found to cause gout, thus gout relief may be gotten by stopping the food that is causing the allergy. Often one needs to go through a battery of allergy testing before finding out the one that is causing the allergic reaction.
Because stress often creates gout in some, it is recommended that the stress be either properly managed or in the very least dealt with to counter the amount of stress the body has felt. Removing stress through psychotherapy can often spell gout relief.
Potassium loss has often resulted in gout, thus raising the potassium level of some patients will bring quick gout relief. Potassium levels may be raised by either taking potassium supplements, or in eating foods that are rich in potassium such as baked potatoes, cooked spinach, dried peaches, avocado, cantaloupe, lima beans, bananas, orange juice, raw carrots, skim milk, yogurt, yams and dried prunes to name but a few.
Home remedies for gout relief are common and include but are not limited to: alfalfa, apple cider vinegar, ginger, bilberry, grapes, black cherry juice, black cohash, nettle, blueberries, parsley, buchu tea, red clover, castor oil, spearmint, cayenne pepper, strawberries and celery seeds to name a few.
Since alcohol, beer, carbonated soft drinks and coffee have been known to bring about gout attacks, you should stay away from drinking those when you have an attack of gout and this will help bring you gout relief. Once the attack has passed, you may drink these in very moderate amounts although there may be an indication that stopping these altogether will spell gout relief for good.
In general gout relief as well as gout prevention can be achieved by following a diet that is low in purines. This means totally avoiding foods such as red meats, shell fish, gravy, liver, kidneys and tongue. Other foods that are moderately high in purines include anything that contains yeast, white flour, sugar and other sweets, rice and pastas.

Looking For The Treatment Of Gout

Looking For The Treatment Of Gout
If you have suddenly found yourself awake in the middle of the night with extreme pain and stiffness coming from your big toe, know that you are not alone. There are many people suffering from the same thing as you and this “thing” is called gout. It is by far the most painful form of arthritis but luckily; there is hope for the treatment of gout. Even though it may feel as though this is a pain that is never going to go away, with a little bit of help and dedication on your part, you will be able to rest easy once again.
It is important to make sure that you are fully aware of what you are up against. This is nothing to ignore and even though it started with your big toe, the gout can move throughout your body affecting many other areas. The gout can spread to your knees, your ankles, your wrists, finger, and many other places. It can also cause kidney stones from the build up of the uric acid. It’s the uric acid build up that causes all of the problems.
The best thing to do is to take action as soon as you see that you are experiencing the symptoms of gout. Those who wait will find that they are in for a terrible amount of pain. If you are someone that thinks you can just “stick it out” you may want to think again. The initial pain that the gout gives to its victims generally lasts only a couple of days. But if the person who is dealing with this problem decides not to look for the treatment of gout, the pain will get worse. As the condition is left to it’s own free will, the affected areas will grow and the pain will last for much longer periods of time.
In order to make sure that you are putting a stop to the problem before it turns into anything that you are no longer able to stand, you must seek treatment. This is not something that is just going to go away on its own. While the attacks of pain, redness, swelling, and heat may come and go the problem is always there.
It is important to make sure that you tackle this problem head on in order to make sure that you are not going to be faced with pain later down the road when you least expect it. Take action and look around for the treatment of gout that is best for your body and your situation. Of course, in the meantime, it is important to make sure that you are making some healthy changes in your lifestyle.
Eating a well balanced diet along with drinking at least eight glasses of water a day will help to make sure that you are healthy. The water will also help to make sure that you are less likely to develop kidney stones that result from the build up of uric acid. Make sure that you are taking your vitamins and that you are following orders from your health care professional. If you are advised to maintain a better weight, it is important to do so. You will want to make sure that you are dropping the weight at a healthy pace though. Losing weight too quickly can result in an increase of the uric acid produced and that is the last thing you want at this point. You just need to find the best treatment of gout here.

Thoughts on Gout Prevention
Filed Under Uncategorized | Comments Off
Having a gout attack is one of the most painful problems that one can suffer through, hence it’s no surprise that many want to know the means of gout prevention. No doubt, prevention is best achieved by following a specific diet, but there are other means of gout prevention available as well.
Primarily, if you are overweight, losing weight is a high priority on gout prevention. Next reducing your alcohol intake or stopping it entirely is highly suggested, especially if your alcohol intake consists mainly of beer. This is because beer contains a large amount of purines, which are known to cause gout.
Dehydration is a common cause of gout, thus avoiding salty foods but drinking an abundant amount of water is a good indicator of gout prevention that is known to work well for many people. Drinking coffee and tea should be avoided though, and also any carbonated soft drinks. Water, on the other hand, helps dilute uric acid in both your blood and your urine, thus the more water you drink, the better your chances are for gout prevention.
Gout prevention may also be achieved via a medical route. Thus your doctor may prescribe specific medications that will block the uric acid production in your body. These may be Allopurinol, Aloprim or Zyloprim. These work to limit the amount of uric acid made by the body or by lowering serum urate levels. There are some side effects, generally a rash and possible low blood counts.
There are also medications that improve uric acid removal. One of these is Probenecid. Probenecid mechanisms are used to prevent the reabsorption of uric acid via the kidney. It also increases its excretion from your body in the urine. This medication has side effects that may produce a rash, or you may experience stomach pain and possible kidney stones.
Serious thought should be given to rid your body of stress as a prevention of gout. It has been found that those who can handle stress using good stress coping strategies are less likely to suffer from gout. After all, everyone should be aware that stress completely changes your blood chemistry, and it also changes the way that your body’s immune system works.
Remember too that physical activity reduces stress levels, thus exercise is important to prevent gout. The sharing of stress, such as talking with friends, clergy or professionals is also important. Take time for yourself and achieve things that are good for you, rather than eating “comfort foods” that may be exceedingly high in purines. Should you feel that perhaps you are suffering from mental problems as well as gout, stress may well be the factor that you need to remove to prevent gout from occurring.
Many people swear by the effects of cherry juice as gout prevention. Cherry juice contains a tremendous amount of antioxidants. It also, when consumed from tart cherries, contains an abundant amount of anti-inflammatory properties. Studies are being made in abundance regarding tart cherries and what it can do as a preventative for gout.
